About Vampire Knight

Cross Academy is an elite boarding school with two separate, isolated classes: the Day Class and the Night Class. On the surface, Yuuki Cross and Zero Kiryuu are prefects of the academy, and attempt to keep order between the students as classes rotate in the evenings. As the night class is full of utterly gorgeous elites, this can sometimes prove to be a bit difficult. It is completely necessary, however, as those "elites" are actually vampires. Yuuki and Zero act as guardians, protecting the secrets of the Night Class and the safety of the ignorant day class.

As the adopted daughter of the academy's chairman, Yuuki takes her job with a serious and energetic attitude. It also allows her to interact with her secret crush and savior, the night class' dorm president, Kaname Kuran. Zero, on the other hand, has a deep-rooted hatred against vampires, and at times, does not hesitate to kill.

Can vampires and humans co-exist, even in the strict setup of the Cross Academy? Only time will tell.

Yuuki Cross (Yuuki Kuran) Profile

The adoptive daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, Yuuki is a member of the school's disciplinary committee (public morals committee in Japanese), which is the 'front' for the Guardians. Ten years prior to the events of "Vampire Knight," Yuuki was attacked by a vampire, but was rescued by Kaname. She has lost all memory of her life before the attack, and Headmaster Cross took her in as his own daughter. Yuuki loves Kaname, and even though she has witnessed his vampiric nature when he bit Ruka, she still couldn't stop loving him. However, she has also started to let Zero, a childhood friend, drink her blood, hoping to save him from madness. Yuuki is cheerful and easygoing, and thanks to her work as a Guardian she is good at keeping her cool in sticky situations. There have been hints that she is special, given that vampires are especially drawn to her blood. Her weapon of choice is the "Artemis Rod," an extensible staff she received from Headmaster Cross.

Kaname Kuran Profile

A pureblood vampire. He saved Yuuki from an attack by another vampire when she was little. Kaname is the class president of the Night Class, much feared and respected by the other Night Class students. While he is cold and authoritative towards his fellow students in the Night Class, he is always kind and sweet to Yuuki. He has shown that he cares deeply for Yuuki ever since he saved her, and loves her in a romantic sense.
As a Pureblood, Kaname is capable of controlling lesser vampires, but he chooses not to exercise his powers, thus earning the respect of the Noble vampires. He shares the Chairman's hopes for peace between vampires and humans. He worked with the Chairman to create the Night Class at Cross Academy and with his presence, allows the Night Class to be kept in check.

Zero Kiryuu Profile

Yuuki's childhood friend, Zero is also a Guardian and likewise on the disciplinary committee. Yuuki has been taking care of him as her little brother since he was brought into their home (the Headmaster's). His family, a line of vampire hunters, was murdered by the pure blood vampire Shizuka Hio when he was young. He harbors a deep hatred for vampires and claims to have taken on the role of Guardian to learn to hunt them better.

Ruka Souen Profile

A female vampire popular with the Day Class students and is one of those are the most faithful and protective of Kaname. She seems to dislike Zero because Kaname acknowledges him and carries bitterness for Yuuki's place in Kaname's heart as her feelings for Kaname run deep. When Yuuki was younger and had not become one of the school's Guardians yet, she once witnessed Kaname drinking Ruka's blood when she paid Kaname a visit. Ruka has feelings for Kaname, although he does not reciprocate them and only drank her blood one time to keep himself from biting Yuuki.

Rima Touya Profile

One of the youngest night class students. She works as a model alongside Senri Shiki. Her exact relationship with Senri Shiki is unknown, though they are almost always seen together, signifying a close relationship.
She is implied to have ended up with Shiki at the end of the manga.

Maria Kurenai Profile

Maria Kurenai is a very distant relative of Shizuka Hio. She allows Shizuka to possess her body in exchange for being allowed to drink Shizuka's blood, which would strengthen her sickly body. Due to Shizuka's untimely death, this promise is never fulfilled. She seems to be fond of Ichiru, hugging Zero when she mistakes him for Ichiru, and asks Yuki to tell Zero that if he sees Ichiru, to tell him Maria wants to see him again.
